Our Wild Turkey Vineyard was developed in 1997 - 1998. The famous Martini Monte Rosa Zinfandel clone is grafted to Saint George rootstock. The hillside vineyard sits at an altitude of almost 900 feet and faces southeast overlooking the Mayacamus mountain range which separates the Sonoma Valley from the Napa Valley. The vineyard's rocky soils are volcanic which provides exceptional mineral balance and porosity. The microclimate is unique as well with warm, sunny days balanced by cool maritime breezes in the late afternoon.
The 2,700 vines are planted in widely spaced rows and head pruned in the style characteristic of the traditional, old country Zinfandel growing practices. Each year, vines are pruned to form a bowl shape, known as a chalice. As each vine sprouts arms and leaves in spring, it flows out and down like a fountain. The "old vine style" means no horizontal wires are used for supporting the arms.
