When you plan a trip to Wine Country, think about putting Geyserville on your itinerary! We are proud to announce the debut of Terroirs Artisan Wines, a joint tasting room venture featuring only wines made by our winemaker, Kerry Damskey. Guests to the tasting room can sample our Zinfandel, Syrah and Syrah Rosé wines by the glass in the upscale comfort of the recently restored and renovated building which features the old architecture combined with modern furnishings.
Geyserville is located just north of Healdsburg at the junction of Dry Creek and the astonishingly beautiful Alexander Valley. An old farming town, its many good restaurants and galleries are interspersed along a main street boasting a true general store and a tractor salesroom. We look forward to introducing our distinctive wines to the many wine enthusiasts who explore the fascinating little towns of California's wine country each year. Please visit us!
Last year at harvest we decided to make our first ever Rosé wine from a section of the Syrah grapes in our Savannah Vineyard. The newcomer was a smashing success! Everyone who tried it became an instant convert and we sold almost all of our first vintage during the warm summer months. Our Syrah Rosé is dry, crisp and full of fruit so it pairs beautifully with cheese, salads, grilled chicken - all kinds of lighter fare. We have made more Rosé this year. Look for a release in early spring.
Our 2005 Syrah won a Gold Medal in the Grand Harvest competition with a score of 93 (out of 100) and Zinfandel took home a silver with a score of 90. The Grand Harvest competition groups wines by geographic location so that wines that define the character of a region are recognized.
Other competitions yielded Silver Medals in the prestigious California State Fair and LA International Wine Competition for our 2005 wines and a California Wine Star award for Hughes Family Vineyards.
In his 2007 review of our Hughes Family Vineyard 2004 Zinfandel, Ray Jordan, Editor of Spirit of Wine, wrote:
"On the palate, a complete flavor experience unfolds, bringing forward...first, a bright sip of fruits and acid...second, a nice round middle... and third, a collection of tame, tweed-coat-style tannins which lead to a pleasingly lengthy finish. ...Overall, this excellent wine exemplifies the slightly unusual concept of a classy Zin!" Spirit of Wine rates wines from around the world using a five star system, from "What are you feeding me?!!" to "Get between me and this wine at your own risk!"
