Farmed organically since their inception, both our Wild Turkey and Savannah vineyards have earned the designation of California Certified Organic Farms. Managed by Phil Coturri, one of Sonoma's leading organic viticulturalists, the Hughes Family Vineyards use creative and environmentally friendly solutions to nurture the soil and handle pests.
Soon after harvest each year a variety of seeds are purposefully sewn in the alleys between the vines to produce a cover crop. When the plants are plowed under the next spring, the cover crops provide most of the needed nutrition for our vines.
Our vineyards live in harmony with many animal friends that also enjoy our grapes. Our winery dogs, Howard and Harry Hughes, have been assigned the task of chasing away crows, wild turkeys, and other birds who threaten to eat more than their share.
Using sustainable farming methods and organic substances in all vineyard activities, we have healthy vineyards that produce superior grapes. To learn more about what it takes to become and maintain a certified organic vineyard, please visit the CCOF Website.
